[WARNING] PLEASE DO NOT EDIT ANYTHING ON THE DOMAIN PAGE BEFORE YOUR WEBSITE HAS GONE LIVE
A domain refers to the identifier of a website that you see in the bar at the top of every browser. In order to connect your domain name to your Online Website, you have to make some updates in your domain registrar so that when your customer type in "www.yourdomain.com" in the domain bar on her browser, your website will show up.
This tutorial will offer a step-by-step guide on how to set up the domain for your Online Website.
1. Please go to My Online Website back office
2. Hit "Storefront" in the left menu and then click "Domain" tab in the top menu
3. Under "Connecting a root domain", in the text box you should see a sentence "Could you please create an A-record for my domain that points to xx.xx.xxx.xxx". Please take note of the string of numbers that are separated by " . "
4. Go to your Domain Registrars such as GoDaddy, HostGator, BlueHost, and others. For detailed instructions on how to set up DNS settings on the following Registrars:
a) GoDaddy
b) BlueHost
5. Log in to your account
6. Look up the Domain that you want to connect to your Online Website. Click on "Manage DNS", "DNS" or any option that implies changing the DNS settings.
7. There are different record types for DNS routing. One type is called "A" type. Please locate that A-type routing and change the string of numbers (IP) to the IP you wrote down in step 3.
8. On the same page, look for records that have the type "CNAME" and the name "www" and edit its value, which is the location this "www" is pointing at, to "your-domain.com".
9. To save the changes you made for the DNS settings, please make sure to click "Save" or any button that is equivalent to "Save".
10. Now go back to the back office for your Online Website.
11. Click on "Storefront Settings" in the left menu and then the "Domain" tab
12. Put your custom domain to this field and click the red button below
14. The domain should now appear in the Domain list above and please wait for up to 24 hours to see a green "Verified" label showing under the SSL status column.
